January 2 | Malibu Farm

Does Orange County need another farm-to-table outsider?  Yes — if it combines a view of Newport Harbor with the rustic luxe look of Malibu Farm. The transformed Lido Marina Village is getting a mashup version of Malibu Farm’s two popular pier venues — a casual breakfast cafe and a separate bar and restaurant. The Lido restaurant will offer a menu of organic and locally sourced ingredients as well as some exclusive specials and handmade ice cream.  Opening in spring 2018.

December 29 | Lido Bottle Works

The ABV of Ten Fidy, a stout that Lido Bottle Works offers, is a whopping 10.5%. But you don't feel it as you sip this viscous and malty brew. Instead you taste hints of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee, almost as if Ovaltine was involved. It goes well with everything, but especially anything Lido Bottle Works' chef Joel Harrington might cook.

December 29 | zinqué

The first restaurant to open in Lido Marina Village a year ago, zinqué offers good food with a view. Catherine has bene here several ties and says it’s an easy spot to meet up with friends for a drink and appetizer at the bar—or even a full dinner. Catherine loves the unique menu options, including the interesting flatbreads. As she notes, “different options for different palates.”

For as fun and fancy-free as chef Joel Harrington is, his cuisine is seriously thoughtful. Very few can plate with that kind of attention to detail; even fewer will put together ingredients that harmonize like an a capella group. A basic gem salad is upgraded with ricotta salata and polenta croutons, making it just as worthy of ordering as the hearty carbonara. The dining room is my preferred spot in Lido Marina Village for its chill vibe and agreeable drink selection, but this locavore menu is what I keep returning for.
